TOPIC: Life Is Not Short

BIBLE TEXT: Ecclesiastes 3:11

”He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

Some things are made to last for a short time, some for a longer time while some are made to last forever. Among God’s creation, man was made and designed to last not for a short time and not just for a longer time but to last forever. According to Abraham Lincoln, God wouldn’t have created man to exist only for a day or for a short time but man was made for immortality.

There is more to life than what we have here on earth. Life on earth is just the dress rehearsal before the real production. Earth is the staging area, the preschool, the try-out for your life in eternity. It is the practice workout before the actual game; the warm-up lap before the race begins. This life is preparation for the next. The maximum approximate years a man can spend on earth is a hundred and twenty, all things being equal. However, life in eternity is forever. Borrowing from Sir Thomas Browne, ”A man’s time on earth is but a small parenthesis in eternity.” You were made to last forever.

Today’s text teaches us that, contrary to the popular saying, life is not short; life is durable, long lasting and everlasting. According to the text, “God has also set eternity in the human heart.” The word ‘eternity’ is used here to mean something that is unending and everlasting. This is what Jesus referred to as abundant life. In God’s plan and design, every man was divinely packaged for eternity. The gene of eternity is in you. You were designed to last forever. You have an inborn instinct that longs for immortality because God designed you in his image to live for eternity.

One day your heart will stop beating. That will be the end of your physical body and your allotted time on earth, but that won’t be your end. Death marks the beginning of the journey to another life called eternity. While life on earth offers many choices, eternity offers only two: heaven or hell. Your relationship with God on earth will determine your relationship to him in eternity. If you learn to love and trust Jesus, you will be invited to spend the rest of eternity with God. On the other hand, if you reject God’s love, forgiveness, and salvation, you will spend eternity apart and away from God forever.

Beloved of God, life is not short as you may think. Life does not terminate at the point of death, it continues after death. Earthly life may be short but eternal life is unending. After death, you will continue to live either in hell or in heaven. Where exactly are you heading to?

I pray for you today:

  1. May you not lose focus in the name of Jesus.
  2. Your eternity will not be terminated.
  3. Receive grace and mercy to last forever.
  4. Your glory, your life and destiny shall not be cut short.
  5. This week, you will not labor in vain.

So shall it be in Jesus name. Amen

Do have a blessed day and a fruitful week.
